Comparando duas coisas usamos a forma comparativa com "than"
"This route is shorter than that one"
- Esta rota é mais curta que aquela
"Today is hotter than yesterday"
- Hoje esta mais quente do que ontem
"Our street is noisier than yours"
"This book seems more interesting than that one
"The weather's better today than it was yesterday"
"This exam was worse than the other one"
"Let's take this route, it's shorter"
- Vamos pegar esse caminho, é mais curto
"I'm glad the weather's better today"
- Estou feliz que o tempo esteja melhor hoje

O superlativo

"It's the highest mountain in the Andes"
- É a montanha mais alta dos Andes
"She is the prettiest girl in the class"
"We want the finest wine you've got"
- Queremos o melhor vinho que você têm
"She always choses the most expensive thing on the menu"
- Ela sempre escolhe a coisa mais cara no cardápio
"That's the best thing about living here"

Nota 1

Omitimos "the" quando comparando a mesma coisa em diferentes situações:
"The garden looks best in the morning"
- O jardim parece melhor de manhã

Nota 2

"Peter is the bigger of the two boys"

1. Palavras de uma sílaba

Para formar o comparativo adicionamos "er", e para o superlativo adicionamos "est".
long > longer > the longest
great > greater > the greatest
hot > hotter > the hottest
big > bigger > the biggest
nice > nicer > the nicest
fine > finer > the finest

happy > happier > the happiest
pretty > prettier > the prettiest
quiet > quieter > the quietest
simple > simpler > the simplest
clever > cleverer > cleverest
narrow > narrower > the narrowest

3. O resto

Com outras palavras de duas sílabas, e com palavras de três sílabas o mais, usamos "more' e "the most". Para formar o comparativo usamos "more" + adjetivo/advérbio Para formar o superlativo usamos "the most" + adjetivo/advérbio
modern > more modern > the most modern
interesting > more interesting > the most interesting

O comparativo de inferioridade

No lugar de "most' e "the most", usamos "less" e "the least":
interesting > less interesting > the least interesting
"This book is less interesting than that one"
- Este livro é menos interessante que aquele
"This book is the least interesting of the three"

good > better > the best
bad > worse > the worst
much > more > the most
little > less > the least
few > fewer > the fewest
far > further (farther) > the furthest (the farthest)
well > better > the best

O comparativo de igualdade

Usamos a construção "as ... as ..."
"She is as tall as I am / as me"
- Ela é tão alta quanto eu
"The river is as high as it was last week"
"They don't have as big a house as we do."
"She can't run as fast as he can / as him"
"I can't run so fast as you"
"I'm running as fast as I can"
- Estou correndo o mais rápido que posso
"She is the same height as me"
- Ela é da mesma altura que eu
