Pode ser um pouco confuso quando usar "another" e quando usar "outro", mas a maneira mais fácil é lembrar que "another" = "an" + "other".
Ou seja, "another" só se usa no singular, e só onde podemos usar o artigo indefinido "a/an". Em todos os outros casos ante um substantivo usamos "other", tanto no singular quanto no plural. Note as diferenças:
No singular
"Do you have this in another color?"
- Você tem isso em outra cor?
"I prefer the other color"
- Prefiro a outra cor
No plural
"Do you have this in any other colors?"
- Você tem isso em outras cores?
"The other colors look better"
- As outras cores ficam melhores
Ou seja, nunca se usa "another" com um substantivo no plural. Nem depois "the", "this", etc no singular. Note que quando vai antes de um substantivo (como determinante) é sempre "other". NÃO dizemos "others colors"
No singular, com sentido de "an" + "other"
"I have a brother in Canada, and another brother in Australia"
- Eu tenho um irmão no Canadá e outro irmão na Austrália.
No singular com outros determinantes
"My other brother lives in Australia"
- Meu outro irmão vive na Austrália
(NÃO "my another brother")"Which book did you prefer, this one or the other one?"
- Que livro você preferiu, este ou o outro?"
(NÃO "the another one")"Can you pass me that other cup, please?"
- Você pode me passar aquela outra xícara, por favor?
(NÃO "that another cup")O Pronome plural "others"
Antes de um substantivo plural, como determinante, sempre usamos "other":
"Where are the other bowls?"
- Onde estão as outras tigelas?
(NÃO "the others bowls")Mas como pronome plural, sozinho, falamos "others".
"I can only find one bowl. Where are the others?"
- Só consigo encontrar uma tigela. Onde estão os outras?
Podemos também usar o pronome "ones" aqui, mas nesse caso será "other", sem "s"
"I can only find one bowl. Where are the other ones?"
Como pronome, geralmente se refere a algo já mencionado, mas podemos usar "others" sozinho para refere-se a "outras pessoas":
"It's getting late. Where are the others?"
- Está ficando tarde. Onde estão os outros?
"Anyway, that's what I think. Others may disagree"
- De qualquer forma, é o que eu penso. Outros podem discordar
"other ones", "other one", "another one"
Como já vimos, no plural podemos falar de "the others" ou "the other ones".
"I can only find one bowl. Where are the others/the other ones?"
Mas no singular geralmente adicionamos o pronome "one":
"I think I prefer the other one"
- Acho que prefiro a outra.
"Do you have another one, in a different color?"
- Você tem outro, de cor diferente?
"Another" também significa "mais um"
"Would you like another coffee?"
- Você gostaria de outro café?
"I think I'll have another of these delicious biscuits"
- Acho que vou comer mais um destes biscoitos deliciosos
Mas com substantivos incontáveis e plurais, usamos "more"
"Would you like some more cake?"
- Você quer mais bolo
